Jason Mays was recently hired as the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Montgomery County High School, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. Mays comes from Ashland Blazer High School, Ashland, Kentucky, where his teams won four consecutive KHSAA 16th Region Championships. Ashland played in the state tournament every year he was Head Coach. His 2019-2020 team finished the season 33-0, before the state tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Prior to becoming a high school coach, Coach Mays was the Interim Head Coach at Kentucky Wesleyan College, Owensboro, KY. With coaching stints at Valdosta State, Georgetown College, and St. Catharine College, Mays has won over 20 games in all but two of his 14 seasons.
His teams are recognized for the pace of which they play, their efficient three-point shooting, and their ability to uncommonly share the ball to obtain the best shot possible.
Campers will participate in several of the shooting and scoring workouts that has helped several of Coach Mays’ former players achieve All-State and All-American statuses, as well as land college scholarships and professional contracts to continue their careers.
